Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is reportedly set to close a deal with Barcelona ahead of a free transfer this summer.
Azpilicueta has been a key Chelsea figure for several years. The £ 7million fee the Blues paid Marseille to sign the Spaniard in 2012 will be one of the finest acquisitions in Premier League history.
However, all good things must eventually come to an end, and with Azpi having been moved to the side by younger and more attacking Reece James, it may be time for him to leave Stamford Bridge.
According to Gerard Romero, a journalist who generally has a good grasp of Barcelona issues, Azpilicueta is expected to sign for the Catalan giants when the month turns into January.
With the defender at the end of his contract with Chelsea in the summer of 2022, he is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club on January 1. If Gerard Romero is right, he intends to use this privilege.
Azpi would leave Chelsea after establishing himself as one of the best defenders in history – a true legend. Barcelona would give themselves a very capable and experienced defender on a free kick. It makes sense for all parties.
