RB Leipzig striker Christopher Nkunku signed a pre-contract to join Chelsea for the 2023-24 season.
It is understood Chelsea have also pledged to pay more than the €60m (£52.7m, $58.8m) release clause in his contract.
The Stamford Bridge club are believed to have done so because the clause does not come into effect until next summer and this way they secure Nkunku up front, while avoiding a more intense battle for services. of the French international.
Nkunku also underwent medical tests before joining Graham Potter’s side in 2023-24.
Chelsea are believed to have beaten the competition, including other Premier League sides, to bring Nkunku to west London.
The 24-year-old has continued the brilliant form he showed last season in this current campaign. In 12 appearances, he has eight goals and one assist in all competitions.
In June, Nkunku signed a two-year deal with RB Leipzig which would have kept him at the club until 2026.
Nkunku has scored 35 goals and registered 20 assists in 52 appearances for RB Leipzig in 2021-22.
Chelsea will be next in action on Wednesday against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
