Football.London report that Alexandre Lacazette is set to leave Arsenal at the end of his contract with the club this summer, and is set to discuss a return to former club Lyon.
As his contract is about to expire, Lacazette is free to speak to Lyon about a pre-contract deal without Arsenal’s permission. He is in discussion with several teams, but Lyon are in the lead.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas recently told the media that he intended to make a move for Lacazette this summer.
“We will do our best to sign Alexandre Lacazette in June”, Aulas noted.
Lyon director Vincent Ponsot added: “We have seen the maturity he has acquired. We have always stayed in contact with him. But bringing in great players is always complicated.
L’Equipe previously reported that Lyon tried unsuccessfully to sign Lacazette away from Arsenal in January, and they will try to bring him back in the coming months.
Lacazette has always maintained a strong bond with his former club. As a result, the Lyon hierarchy has contacted his entourage in recent weeks about a possible transfer.
On the other hand, the same outlet claimed that Arsenal could still offer Lacazette a short-term contract extension of one or two years in the coming weeks.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joining Barcelona and Eddie Nketiah also out of contract and rejecting extension offers, it certainly doesn’t seem impossible that Arsenal are looking to keep at least one of their senior strikers beyond this summer.
