Newcastle United are keen to sign Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha after scouting him in the Europa League last week.

This is according to The Sunwho claim Newcastle scouts watched Strakosha in action against Marseille.

Newcastle are hoping to sign Strakosha to a pre-contract deal in January.

Magpise would then like to offer Lazio a reduced fee to try and force an instant deal.

Strakosha, 26, can leave Lazio for nothing next summer, and Newcastle apparently feel like a bargain.

The Albania international has been one of the best keepers in Italian football in recent years, but now he could be tempted to move to England.

Does Newcastle really need another goalkeeper at Strakosha?

Martin Dubravka is Newcastle’s best goalkeeper but he can’t even get a kick, with Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman also in contention.

Mark Gillespie also provides cover, with Newcastle having four senior goalkeepers at their disposal.

Strakosha is a quality goalkeeper in his own right, but surely Newcastle cannot justify a move without him without offloading the other goalkeepers first.

Defenders, midfielders, strikers… Newcastle need them all, but maybe another keeper can wait – although Strakosha is a great talent.
