More … than 7,000 OHSU workersincluding respiratory therapists and pharmacists, are represented by AFSCME Local 328. About 93% of workers represented by the union voted to authorize their bargaining team to call a strike on August 26.

The workers’ current contract expired in June, and members of the bargaining team have been regularly negotiating the terms of a new contract with OHSU since March. The union demanded a general wage increase of 8% in the first year of the new contract and a 7% increase in the second and third years of the new contract.

OHSU proposal which was submitted on August 30 included general wage increases of a fraction of 6% (a 4% increase in the second full pay period after contract ratification and a 2% increase in the first pay period complete after January 1, 2023) in the first year of the contract; a 4% increase in the second year of the contract; and a 3% in the first full pay period after July 1, 2024, in the third year of the contract.

New negotiations resulted in a new proposed agreement. Workers would receive general annual wage increases of 7% in the first year of the new contract; a 5% increase in the second year of the contract; and a 5% increase in the third year of the contract.

Union members will have the opportunity to vote on whether their negotiating team should approve the proposed Oct. 3-Oct. 9 deal. Members of the bargaining team recommend that the workers approve the agreement.

“WWithout the mobilization, without the willingness of members to strike, we would not have been able to bring what we did to the bargaining table,” said Haley Wolford Davis, Bargaining Team Member , during an update on union negotiations on Wednesday. “We want to continue to involve you in this process.”

If ratified, the contract will be effective the second full pay period after ratification.

“This is a tremendous achievement, and we appreciate the dedication of both negotiating teams for their time in bringing about this agreement and their support of our valued employees,” OHSU said in a statement. statement.
